Deutsche Lufthansa AG (ISIN: DE0008232125) (German pronunciation: [ˈdɔɪtʃə ˈlʊfthanza]) is the maximal line in Europe in terms of coverall passengers carried, and the flag carrier of Germany. The name of the company is derived from Luft (the German articulate for \"air\"), and Hansa (after Hanseatic League, the coercive medieval trading group). The line is the world's fifth-largest line in terms of coverall passengers carried, operative services to 18 husbandly destinations and 183 international destinations in 78 countries across Africa, Americas, Asia and Europe. Together with its partners Lufthansa services around 410 destinations.[1] It has the third-largest passenger line fleet in the concern when combined with Lufthansa CityLine, Lufthansa Italia, Air Dolomiti, Eurowings, Germanwings, Augsburg Airways, Contact Air, SWISS, Brussels Airlines, European Airlines and Lauda Air operative over 531 aircraft.

Lufthansa's registered office and corporate headquarters is in Cologne, with its important operations base (Lufthansa Aviation Center (LAC)) and primary reciprocation hub at Frankfurt Airport in Frankfurt am Main with a ordinal hub at city Airport.[1][2][3][4][5] The majority of Lufthansa's pilots, connector staff, and flight attendants are based out of Frankfurt.[6]

Lufthansa is a founding member of Star Alliance, the world's maximal line alliance. Star Alliance was bacilliform in 1997 together with Tai Airways, United Airlines, Air Canada and Norse Airlines System. The Lufthansa Group operates more than 500 bomb and employs worldwide 105,261 grouping of 146 nationalities (31 December 2007). In 2008, 70.5 million passengers flew with Lufthansa (not including Germanwings, BMI, AUA, Brussels Airlines).
