Syrian Air

Syrian Air (Arabic: السورية‎), previously famous as Asiatic Semite Airlines (Arabic: مؤسسة الطيران العربية السورية‎), is the flag carrier line of Syria, supported in Damascus. It operates scheduled planetary services to over 40 destinations in Asia, aggregation and North Africa, as substantially as husbandly services. Its main base is Damascus International Airport.

1946 – 1961

Syrian Airlines was established in autumn 1946, with digit propellers and started to control between Damascus Aleppo and Der Alzour and Kamishli the line swollen during the fifties to include Beirut, Baghdad, and Jerusalem, then port and Kuwait then Doha, in addition to flights during hajj.

The line was established by the Government of Syria in Oct 1961 to succeed Asiatic Airways which had been established in 1946.[1] The newborn Asiatic Semite Airlines took over the routes previously controlled by Asiatic Airways and United Semite Airlines. The latter had been a short-lived line bacilliform by the merger of Asiatic Airways and Misrair in January 1961 during the organization of Syria and Egypt.

Syrian Semite Airlines began operation with threesome Douglas DC-6, digit Douglas DC-4 and threesome Douglas DC-3s, serving both husbandly and planetary routes to the east. In season 1963, Syrianair begin its expansion to the west, starting with leaders and Munich, then London and Paris. Sud Aviation Caravelle 10B3 joined the fleet in Oct 1965. In 1976, the line acquired a Boeing 727-200 and 747SP.

In the 1970s, because of the closer political ties between Syria and the state Union, Syrianair acquired state aircraft. This included an Antonov An-26, Ilyushin Il-76 and Yakovlev Yak-40 in the 1970s and Tupolev Tu-134B-3 and Tupolev Tu-154M in the 1980s.

A joint service with Royal Asiatic to New royalty was opened in July 1978.

When the United States imposed sanctions on Syria, updates to Syrianair were interrupted until Oct 1998, when Airbus A320-200 were bought.

As of August 2006, Syrianair was in negotiations to acquire threesome Ilyushin Il-96-400 long-range bomb and quaternary Tupolev Tu-204 medium-range aircraft.[2]

As of Oct 2008, the line retained the ingest of digit of its digit old Boeing 747SPs for flights to Dubai, but this model is now thought to have joined its sister in the Damascus airport storage area.

The line is wholly owned by the Asiatic polity and employs 5,325 staff.

Dr. Sami Khiyami, currently Asiatic Ambassador in London, England, is a former senior figure within the Airline.
